Guitar League Dallas Part 3 – Influences

Having just started talking about John Renbourn, I went into some of the others who I looked at as mentors. The list includes John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Jorma Kaukonen, to name a few. The story continued with mentions of people I shared the stage with at a local venue, Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, Al Stewart, Laurence Juber and Keola Beamer. The one I couldn’t get was Mason Williams but we had a few great conversations. Classical Gas was crying out to be played at that point and I was happy to oblige.

A discussion started after that about easier fingerpicking songs for students and I played a few examples of tunes I recommend to start your fingerpicking path. I played a bit of Grandfather’s Clock, Take A Look At That Baby and In Christ There Is No East Or West before we headed into a few questions.
