Totally Guitars Weekly Wrap Up February 15th, 2013
Share
As we enjoy a warming trend here in Northern California (hoping it
will last awhile) I was intrigued by the Forum thread about people’s
first guitars. After talking a bit about this week’s new releases I
brought out a couple of my guitars. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the
first, a cheap nylon string junker made in Mexico that met with
a bit of children’s violence, but I still have my first good guitar which
you may have even seen in a few videos.
I also spoke about unusual chord progressions, playing one of my early
pieces designed to be a bit hard to follow, as well as a list of a
handful of songs that I consider essential study for all guitar
students. I’m sure you will recognize all of them and hopefully have
them mastered at this point.
The new content included Student Reviews on Neil Young’s Tell Me Why
and Stray Cat Strut by Brian Setzer (and of course The Stray Cats),
and we followed up Kevin’s Fly On The Wall lesson on Shady Grove with
a peek at how it was sounding a week later.
We also had two full song lessons, Fast Car by Tracy Chapman and Nick
Drake’s Time Has Told Me. I heavily recommend a documentary on Nick
called Under Review to anybody interested in finding more about him.
The videos includes commentary from a great bunch of legendary English
musicians, including Ralph McTell, John Renbourn, and Ashley Hutchings.
I hope you enjoy the recap and hope to be back next week,
Neil
