Phoenix Guitar League – Neil Hogan – Part 5
On November 13, 2018 the Phoenix Guitar League had its first meeting at a Marriott Hotel on the west side of town. Neil was asked by Bart Marshel to be the inaugural Presenter with a mixed format of performance, instruction, and interaction with the attendees.
A small group of guitar players convened and a memorable time was had by all (we hope…).
Part 5 got started with discussions on fingerpicking, mentioning Jim Croce and his tendencies, along with pioneers like Merle Travis and Reverend Gary Davis, and the next generation like Jorma Kaukonen. Neil went into various techniques, talked a bit about Open Tunings, and then played Water Song, from the third Hot Tuna album, Burgers.
There were also some tips on bending notes, with mentions of Wonderful Tonight and Wish You Were Here.
