Totally Guitars Weekly Wrap Up July 27th, 2012

This week I figured it was time for me to get back to playing more. The News starts off with a piece called Idylwild. This was written as part of a series of new songs (about 10 years ago) that had a bit more percussion involved. I played a bit of another at the end called Any Other Name. Maybe more details later on both of these.
A quick rundown of the releases followed- the conclusion to Mood For A Day, Jack Straw by The Grateful Dead, Student Reviews on Babe I’m Gonna Leave You and Ventura Highway, as well as a couple of interesting Fly On The Wall lessons. The first included a couple of Vintage Snapshots looking at a 1926 Martin 0-18 and my 1920 Weissenborn Lap Steel before leading into a Theory Review lesson with Robert, starting with a bit on the relationship between melody and harmony. We ended the week with another part of Beaker’s visit to TG Central. this one focused on Dominant Chords and various resolutions.
Along with trying to play a bit more on the News, I will be trying to answer questions posed by our Target Members, much like we used to do with TG Live shows. It has gotten a bit impractical to do them currently so this will continue, I hope. This week I talked about diminished chords and some of the places they are used. As an example I butchered my way through my tune Tickle Me, a ragtime track from my El Dorado album that uses quite a few.
I hope our members will get back to posting questions on the Ask Neil Forum. i will try to get to some every week.
Stay Tuned & In Touch,
Neil
