Totally Guitars Weekly Update July 18, 2025

July 18, 2025,

My interest, obsession and admiration for Elton John tunes continued this week with three new lessons from his catalog – Tiny Dancer, Crocodile Rock and I’m Still Standing. This brings our TG Library up to 11 tunes from the desks of Elton and lyricist Bernie Taupin, although in the interest of accuracy I must give credit to Leslie Duncan who wrote Love Song and played guitar and sang on Tumbleweed Connection. That album was Elton’s second released in the U.S. and Love Song may be the only song on one of his albums that he did not write.

There is a big event happening in August in Santa Cruz – my friend Robert Witmeyer’s band, Djangatos is having an album release party on August 23. They play Gypsy Jazz with stunning virtuosity. We will be giving away some tickets in the next few weeks so stay tuned.

We are also just about 7 weeks out from our Fall International Guitar Camp and could add a couple more students. The limit is 25 and we are at 23 right now. All levels are welcome, of course.

You continue to put the play in playing guitar. Your discussion of non harmonic singing seems to be at the crux of my difficulties with Yesterday, which seems to have a G sung in an F chord maybe. Not sure what to do. Might figure it out by the next camp. See you then.

Right you are Mark, the first note in Yesterday is the second of the chord, a non-harmonic note. I would play it as, or just before you sing it.
