Phoenix Guitar League – Neil Hogan – Part 2
Share
On November 13, 2018 the Phoenix Guitar League had its first meeting at a Marriott Hotel on the west side of town. Neil was asked by Bart Marshel to be the inaugural Presenter with a mixed format of performance, instruction, and interaction with the attendees.
A small group of guitar players convened and a great time was had by all (we think…).
Part 2 is mostly about guitarists who inspired and were virtual mentors to Neil. He talks about John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Jorma Kaukonen and Rev. Gary Davis, and plays excerpts of Beverly, Grandfather’s Clock, Hesitation Blues, Keep Your Lamps Trimmed And Burning, Blackbird, Dust In The Wind, and even a snippet of Tubular Bells. He does play slightly more complete versions of Mann’s Fate from the first Hot Tuna album and The Fisherman from Leo Kottke’s 6 & 12 String Guitar album.
He ends with an introduction to Part 3 which kicks off with his biggest influence.
