Neil plays Last Train Home by Pat Metheny

Last week as I worked on James, I figured I would take a look at another of my favorite Pat Metheny songs. Last Train Home was the song that hooked me into his genius. I had tried a few times to come up with a solo arrangement but completely struck out every time.
Somehow, last Friday the light bulb went on when I tried it in the key of A, and all the parts started taking shape into something I could play. More importantly, I felt I could capture the essence of the song, particularly the driving rhythm (that would be one of the sounds of the train), and then pull out the scattered melody notes.
Like James, this has a ways to go but I wanted to share it with the TG Community as another rough draft.

I am surprised that no one has commented on this piece. I really, really like this arrangement. This song by Pat Metheny is one of my favorites.
I agree that you were able to capture the driving rhythm that is core to the song. Most other arrangements only capture the melody and tend to be rather boring. I am not quite sure what needs to be added to it but the arrangement as it stand now is way better than any other that I have seen on the internet.
Also, I like the fact that you did this outside and that one lone car passed at the very end of the song. You couldn’t have timed it better. Thanks for sharing!

Great! I really like this tune and your solo play. I’m trying to play this in your style, but it’s very difficult.

Awesome! It takes a lot of courage to cover Pat with a solo guitar! Well done!
