Totally Guitars Weekly Update August 16, 2024

August 16, 2024

Just this morning I joined a small band of teachers at my daughter’s school (she teaches 4thgrade there). They were doing a few sing-alongs with the whole school and one of the tunes was Take Me Home, Country Roads. It gave me an opportunity to play it in a different key than the standard version and it morphed into a fingerpicking ditty that was still on my mind at the start of this week’s Update. It may be on my future lesson list soon. The other bookend for the video is a song by Pentangle that I have always meant to work out but just haven’t gotten around to, for over 40 years. Stick around till the end for that short story.

We added two great lessons to the TG Library this week: Monday, Monday by The Mamas & The Papas and the solo arrangement of Blackbird that I have been obsessing over for a couple weeks now.

This week’s set of lessons I heavily recommend included some riff-based ones with strumming at a couple levels, along with some of my favorite advanced ones.

Neil been a member with you for a number of years, subscribed for a while then didn’t ( I had too many subscriptions) but I always come back to you and your lessons and purchase some. I work too many hours as an ER doc and haven’t been able to practice as much as I’ve wanted but I retire this year at 74 or at least cut back and plan to spend more time on your excellent lessons I love your playing and the way you approach the music. I look forward to the Pentangle “Cruel Sisters“ lesson and others. I appreciate you and the dedication to teaching; I hope you have found it fulfilling. Cheers!

      Hey Curtis,
Thanks for the kind words and I hope you get more time for guitar soon. I love doing this and feel so fortunate that I am able to do what I love for a living.
