Pearl Jam came on the scene in the early 1990s, and pretty much ruled the decade in the new music world known as grunge. The Seattle based band filled in its last link with the addition of Eddie Vedder, a vocalist/guitarist from San Diego who really gave the band a signature sound. The riff-based stylings of Mike McCready and Stone Gossard, as well as the fingerstyle compositions of Eddie Vedder have been favorites of guitar students for well over a quarter century now. This set includes quite a variety of their tunes; Jeremy, Sirens, The End, Better Man and Just Breathe.
Lessons
Lesson 1: Better Man Guitar Lesson
Pearl Jam is another band that came of age in the 1990s and their 1994 album Vitalogy included *Better Man*, a song Eddie Vedder wrote when he was still a teenager. It features a simple picking pattern over a few chords that slide up the neck, as well as the standard major chords in the key of D- D, G and A.
Lesson 2: Jeremy by Pearl Jam - Guitar Lesson
One of Pearl Jam’s most famous songs, this tune is a must-have for any grunge fan.
Based around an ultra-catchy but simplistic single note riff it quickly morphs into power chords and arpeggios layered on top of each other.
By the end of this lesson you’ll be ready to jam along with this awesome rock song note for note!Lesson 3: Sirens - Pearl Jam - Guitar Lesson
Sirens is a song by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam. It is taken from their tenth studio album, ‘Lightning Bolt’ which was released in the fall of 2013.
It is a great song for beginners since it contains a lot of open chords, including some easy variations, which are the first ones that every new guitar player should learn. Also the progression and the strumming should be very do-able.
A couple of challenges might be the fast chord changes in the Pre-Chorus, and a little ascending bass line in the Chorus.Lesson 4: Just Breathe Guitar Lesson - Pearl Jam
Really a solo guitar song by Eddie Vedder, Just Breathe is a fingerpicking tune much like Dust In The Wind or Blackbird. One of the similarities is that the picking is easy but very fast. This was released in October 2009 on the Pearl Jam album Backspacer.
Lesson 5: The End - Pearl Jam - Guitar Lesson
The End is a beautiful and incredibly sad song recorded by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam. It’s the final track of their ninth studio album ‘Backspacer’, which was released in 2009.
It features relatively easy chord shapes with the main melody notes of Eddie Vedder’s vocals incorporated, and moderately fast fingerpicking, which should be doable for most guitar players. The song is in the key of G and although the lesson is presented in standard tuning, on the original recording the guitar is tuned down a half step.
