Bryan Adams is a modern-day Renaissance man, being a skilled singer, songwriter, philanthropist, photographer, and producer, not to mention guitarist. Hailing from Canada, he has written and recorded some great songs since the early 1980s. Many of his songs have been favorites of students as they are very catchy and fun to play. This set of lessons includes Summer Of '69, Cuts Like A Knife, Please Forgive Me, Back To You, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, and Heaven.

  • Lesson 1: Heaven - Bryan Adams - Guitar Lesson

    Heaven is a power ballad by Canadian rock singer-songwriter Bryan Adams, recorded in 1983. It became his first number one single.

    The lesson takes a look at the acoustic version as performed during the Unplugged Show broadcast by MTV, as well as how Bryan performs it nowadays. The latter is probably easier to tackle for beginners.

    The Unplugged version contains flatpicking, strumming, a few embellishments and passing bass notes. The song is in the key of C, using the I, II, IV, V and VI, with one chord out of the key which is also the hardest one to play.

    Keep in mind, that no matter which version you decide to play, keep the playing random and make the song your own.

  • Lesson 2: Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams - Guitar Lesson

    Summer Of ’69 is a song by Canadian rock singer-songwriter Bryan Adams, recorded in 1984 and released as the 4th single of his album Reckless.

    The lesson is mostly based on the acoustic version as performed during the Unplugged Show broadcast by MTV.

    The song is in the key of D, using the I, IV, V and VI, and a key change in the bridge. The playing involves both flatpicking as well as strumming.

    The lesson takes a close look at the main four measures which appear in the intro, outro, verses and interludes. It covers how Keith Scott plays it, which is basically an arpeggio over D major and A major, incorporating sus2’s and sus4’s, and also how Bryan plays it himself.

  • Lesson 3: (Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams - Guitar Lesson

    (Everything I Do) I Do It For You is a power ballad by Canadian rock singer-songwriter Bryan Adams. It appears on the soundtrack of the 1991 film ‘Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves’, for which it earned a Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television,. It was also included on his sixth studio album ‘Waking Up The Neighbours’, released in 1992.

    The lesson takes a look at how Bryan usually performs it on stage. It covers the progression, the chords, the strumming and the guitar solo, which he occasionally plays on an acoustic guitar.

    The song is in the key of Db, but uses the chord shapes in the key of C, where the guitar is capoed on the 1st fret, although nowadays he often performs it without it.

    Back To You is a rock song written by artist Bryan Adams and Eliot Kennedy. It was first released in 1997 as a live acoustic version for Adams album ‘Unplugged’.

    We take a look at the chords in the key of C, the strumming and the progression.

    The arrangement is straight forward, energetic and has a very driving feel to it. This makes it much fun to play, yet relatively easy. The biggest challenge might be the ‘dreaded’ F chord.

  • Lesson 5: Please Forgive Me by Bryan Adams - Guitar Lesson

    Please Forgive Me is a slow power ballad by Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams, and co-written by producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange.

    It was released on his 1993 Greatest Hits album ‘So Far So Good’ and became a massive radio hit all over the world.

    Even though we mostly take a look at how Bryan performs it in more recent years, in which he sticks to playing through two verses and two chorus’, we also go a little bit through the album version.

    The lesson teaches how to play the song in both the original key, the key of A, as well as the key of G, where the guitar is capoed on the 2nd fret.

    The key of G is by far the easiest, especially if one would want to play the album version, which includes a key change in the final chorus, taking the progression a whole step up.
