The Carter Family is considered by many to be the First Family of American Folk Music. Cousins Sara and Maybelle married A.P. Carter and his brother and started performing across the South in the 1920s. This could also be considered the roots of Bluegrass as their style included instrumental breaks, picking out the melodies and improvising over the chord changes. Wildwood Flower consists of a basic melody and chord progression, which we combine into a simple flatpicking solo. There is also a segment on dressing it up with embellishments and making it your own.
