Summer In The City was a big hit for The Lovin' Spoonful in 1966. Written by John Sebastian and bass player Steve Boone, based on an idea by John's brother Mark, it was quite a different take on most 'Summer' songs, complaining about the heat and the noise rather than a dreamy approach.
The song is in the key of C Minor, which we do with a capo at the third fret using A Minor chords. The strumming is challenging because it is very fast. We look at the chords, the strumming, and a bit of the theory involved, and even include a Slo-Mo Play Along at the end.
