Lesson notes

Ella Langley is an American country music singer-songwriter.

Her hit single Choosin' Texas, taken from her 2nd studioalbum 'Dandelion' (2026) became a Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit. It earned her two Country Music Awards for Single and Song of the Year.

The arrangement is done in the key of Db, for which Langley uses 'Dropped Db' or 'Dropped C#'. This means that all strings are tuned down 1/2, and another whole step down for the bottom string (6th string) resulting in Db-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb or C#-G#-C#-F#-A#-D#. From there she plays through the song with shapes in the key of D.

We break down the tuning thoroughly, and take a look at the chords, the strumming, and the progression, in particular as performed in live settings.

It needs to be noted that in order to play the song, dropping all those strings aren't a must. If you decide to play it in standard tuning, then it only means you would need to sing a half step higher. The same goes for Dropped D-Tuning. (DADGBE). Of course if you already have a guitar with all six strings tuned down a half step, you're set to go as well.

Another option would be to play it with shapes in the key of C, capo the guitar on the 1st fret, and go from there. (The chords: C-F-G-Am-Dm)
