Just What I Needed is a song by American rock band The Cars from their self-titled debut album (1978).
The lesson takes an acoustic approach and mainly teaches the rhythm guitar part, as well as how Ric Ocasek plays it by himself.
The arrangement features five barre chords (and/or power chords) in the key of E, with one chord out of the key, and a steady uptempo rhythm.
The strumming is in double time, and includes palm muting for some parts of the song like the intro and verses.
We mostly focus on the many syncopated chord changes, particularly for the chorus, the guitar solo and outro. Being able to comfortably strum in general is probably a must, since it can be challenging timing wise. Make sure to count when it is.
