Lesson notes

In 1970 Mike Nesmith, ex-Monkee, released his album Magnetic South, billed as with The First National Band. Joanne became his only hit as a performing artist. He was already known as a successful songwriter with Different Drum, an early hit for Linda Ronstadt.

Joanne is a fairly basic strumming song and a good place to work on the country technique of hitting bass notes on beats 1 and 3 in the measure. The progression includes a bit of a moving bass line, where the notes descend from the tonic chord (C) to the subdominant (F).
