Beautiful Love - Jazz Standard - Piano Lessonby Wayne King, Victor Young & Egbert Van Alstyne

In this lesson we’re going to work on “Beautiful Love,” a jazz standard written in 1931 by Wayne King, Victor Young and Egbert Van Alstyne. It was originally composed as a waltz and appeared in the 1932 films “The Mummy” and “Hotel Continental,” credited in both films as “Love Theme.” Since then it has become part of the jazz standard repertoire, often played as a brisk 4/4 swing tune. A great example recording of “Beautiful Love” in 4/4 swing appears on the influential Bill Evans Trio 1961 album, “Explorations,” with Scott LaFaro on bass and Paul Motian on drums (in fact, this album features 2 takes of the tune). In this lesson we’re going to learn the basic harmony and form, as well as guide tone voicings.
