Lesson notes

In this lesson we’re going to look at the harmonic minor scale. Harmonic minor features an unusual structure that includes an interval of a minor third, which is different from major, natural minor and melodic minor scales which only use half steps and whole steps. The harmonic minor scale has an exotic sound, and it’s not quite as common in jazz as melodic minor, but it can come into play when using chords that feature diminished triads, such as 7b9 chords. We’ll learn harmonic minor scale fingerings for both hands, up and down two octaves, in all 12 keys.
