Lesson notes

In this lesson we’re going to go through some sample chord voicings in the Dorian mode, using D dorian as an example. In modal playing, where the harmony is largely static, one of the keys to a large chord vocabulary is learning many different chord shapes within the same harmonic area. This lesson and the accompanying handout include 8 sets of prewritten two-handed voicings, as well as an extensive set of voicings for the left and right hand alone that you can either use unmodified or combine together for a larger sound. In addition to presenting the voicings in an exercise setting, I’ll put them a more musical setting by integrating them into some improvisations and comping patterns.
