Cmin Funk/Soul Groove #5: Beyond the Basic Changes 3by Funk & Soul Grooves

This is the 5th and final lesson in our current funk/soul groove series based on the “Red Clay" solo changes. This lesson builds on the previous 4 Funk/Soul groove lessons, so make sure you check those out first for some harmonic foundation. In this lesson we’re going to simplify our harmony, sticking mainly to 1 chord per bar, and we’ll shift our focus to exploring different root movement patterns. We’ll look at ascending and descending stepwise motion and also minor and major third leaps. Finally, in contrast to our previous lessons, most of which used C minor as our home base, we’ll be basing these 10 variations off of C major, so we’ll spend a lot more time on major 7th chord motion.
