Lesson notes

In this lesson we’re going to look at the Rodgers & Hammerstein tune “My Favorite Things,” from the 1959 musical The Sound of Music. “My Favorite Things” is popular as both a jazz standard, mainly due to John Coltrane’s iconic recording on his 1963 album of the same name, and as a Christmas song, because of the winterthemed nature of the lyrics. In this introductory lesson we’re going to explore form and harmony, check out some different chord voicing possibilities, and look at jazz accompaniment patterns for the changes.
