In this lesson we’ll be learning another Christmas song, “Silent Night,” composed in 1818 by Austrian organist Franz Xavier Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr, a priest. Mohr commissioned Gruber to write a melody and guitar accompaniment for the Christmas Eve mass in Oberndof, Austria. Originally an uptempo dance in 6/8, the tune is now most often performed as a slow, 3/4 lullaby. The tune proved so popular that in 2011 UNESCO declared it an intangible cultural heritage. In this lesson, we’re going to learn two different 1chorus arrangements in Bb, one easier and one slightly more advanced. Both arrangements feature melody in the right hand and an arpeggiated accompaniment in the left hand
