Lesson notes

In this lesson we’ll be learning “Mo Better Blues,” a gospel tune by pianist Bill Lee, and the title track for the 1990 Spike Lee movie of the same name. We’ll learn an adaptation and simplification of jazz pianist Jacky Terrasson’s version of the tune, from his 2003 album “Smile.” We’ll take a look at the harmony, and then go through two verses of the song–first the main theme, and then a variation of that theme. The arrangement we’ll be learning consists of a right-hand melody part plus a two-handed accompaniment part.
