The Logical Song was written by Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson. It was released by Supertramp in 1979 on the album Breakfast In America In this lesson, we’ll talk about the 10 different triads used in the song. Several of them are played with an added 7 and many are played with bass notes other than the root – so we’ll cover slash chords. There is even a rare rock appearance of the m7(b5) chord! As usual, we’ll first go through each part of the song with chords in root position – then follow that up by using the technique of finding the nearest inversion. In the song specific techniques section, I’ll take you through the song front to back – focusing quite a bit on the bassline – and also going over the signature licks of the song.
