Lesson notes

Smile was written and recorded by Uncle Kracker. It was released in 2009 on the album Happy Hour. In this lesson, we’ll talk about the 6 different triads used in the song. The interesting thing about the chords in this song is different bass notes played under the first chord and the rhythm to create the signature lick of the song. As usual, we’ll first go through each part of the song with chords in root position – then follow that up by using the technique of finding the nearest inversion – or where appropriate the exact inversion used on the recording. This song also has a chord that is unusual for pop music, a m7(b5) – which I will spend some time explaining.
