When you do the artificial<br \/>\nharmonics, looks like you\u2019re using thumb and your ring finger to hit them, and I wanna see your index<br \/>\nfinger\u2026<br \/>\nTommy: Yeah.<br \/>\nNeil: To strike them. So you\u2019re not using middle finger for anything on this.<br \/>\nTommy: It\u2019s a balance.<br \/>\nNeil: Yeah! No..<br \/>\nTommy: It\u2019s\u2026 give a little point<br \/>\nNeil: Okay. I just wanna make sure. It\u2019s hard to tell when you\u2019re doing it.<br \/>\nTommy: Yeah. That\u2019s it\u2026<br \/>\nNeil: Yeah.<br \/>\nTommy: If you at look at it and say\u2026(strumming the guitar)<br \/>\nNeil: Yeah. But that\u2019s sounds like\u2026 that\u2019s<br \/>\nTommy: And the key into getting the clarity is the further back you can get that from that, the better. If<br \/>\nyou come up close, you\u2019re gonna choke it.<br \/>\nNeil: Yeah. What I try is to tell people when they\u2019re working on that, is this finger actually has to be<br \/>\nalmost straight. You almost have to lock it.<br \/>\nTommy: That\u2019s right.<br \/>\nNeil: So.. Or it\u2019s gonna move.<br \/>\nTommy: You\u2019re right.<br \/>\nNeil: \u2018Coz when you are in the other, it\u2019s gonna move so\u2026<br \/>\nTommy: Then you gonna look like that (strumming the guitar)<br \/>\nNeil: Yeah. And that\u2019s just it. I tell them to lock it and then your thumb behind it and 3rd finger on the<br \/>\ntop just like that, you know?<br \/>\nMatt: Listen, I wanna make sure that you\u2019re not holding up\u2026<br \/>\nNeil: Very, very.. It\u2019s so true.<br \/>\nTommy: I\u2019ll mention when I\u2019m already.<br \/>\nMatt: Okay (laughs)<br \/>\nNeil: One more question about\u2026 Like.. So chord progression you put together for Moon River.<br \/>\nTommy: Right.<br \/>\nNeil: You\u2019re knowledge of theory came use from where? This is just your waste, and from your only<br \/>\nthousands of songs.<br \/>\nTommy: You knowledge of theory is million miles of life \u2026<br \/>\nNeil: That\u2019s\u2026 You know. I mean your songs, you ears<br \/>\nTommy: I\u2019m trying to find a way of playing the melody\u2026<br \/>\nNeil: Yeah.<br \/>\nTommy: In a way that it is beautiful.<br \/>\nNeil: Yeah.<br \/>\nTommy: And I found (strumming the guitar)<br \/>\nNeil: I know. It\u2019s great.<br \/>\nTommy: See that? Oooh.. Dooo Dooo (singing)<br \/>\nNeil: So these things\u2026<br \/>\nTommy: I stole that from a piano player.<br \/>\nNeil: Okay.<br \/>\nTommy: I was in a bar. One day, I was getting some food in Sydney and this piano player played, and he<br \/>\nwent into\u2026 rooon\u2026 rooon&#8230; (strumming the guitar), and then he went raaan.. raaan.. raaan..<br \/>\nMatt: God! I want that!<br \/>\nTommy: You see that?<br \/>\nMatt: Yeah!<br \/>\nTommy: It\u2019s such a beautiful idea! So I don\u2019t use it every time of course. \u2018Coz when you listen to the<br \/>\noriginal it\u2019s always (strumming the guitar). It\u2019s a ways of the 9th to the flat five (strumming the guitar).<br \/>\nThat chord there (strumming the guitar). So the first line (strumming the guitar) and I do (strumming the<br \/>\nguitar). Then (strumming the guitar).<br \/>\nNeil: That was nice than, the major 7. So\u2026 Yeah.<br \/>\nTommy: (Strumming the guitar)<br \/>\nNeil: That was beautiful.<br \/>\nTommy: (Strumming the guitar). Now things like that (strumming the guitar). You have to do to have it<br \/>\nget cleaned, but they really worth it \u2018coz (strumming the guitar)<br \/>\nNeil: Yeah, that\u2019s it fine.<br \/>\nTommy: You know what I mean?<br \/>\nMatt: Now, would you\u2026<br \/>\nTommy: I practiced that.<br \/>\nMatt: For the guys, see they\u2019re with\u2026<br \/>\nTommy: You\u2019re seeing the finish product. That\u2019s the thing and believe me, there\u2019s a lot of housework<br \/>\npolishing and shining, cleaning and going back to other things. That\u2019s what I call housework. Go to my<br \/>\narrangements and do the housework and get all the most skills together, because the way it works is\u2026<br \/>\nFirst of all, I came up with an arrangement and I spent time on the arrangement and if I\u2019m excited about<br \/>\nit and it\u2019s going really well, then I\u2019ll go through it and through it and through it until I know whether that<br \/>\narrangement works really well. Now, I better practice it.<br \/>\nMatt: Right.<br \/>\nTommy: And I better do the motor skills until I don\u2019t think about the motor skills, and then when I stop<br \/>\nthinking about the motor skills and my hands had already doing it, that\u2019s the magic moment.
