This week we had one of the most diverse, as far as styles, with our new releases, IMHO. We started with the world of Ragtime as we continued the lesson on Scott Joplin and Louis Chauvin’s Heliotrope Bouquet, then had the folkiness of Donovan with a FOTW look at Colours, a masterpiece of creative chord progressions with You’re Gonna Lose That Girl by The Beatles, continuing with a very different approach to unusual progressions with the lesson on Syd Barrett’s Terrapin, and finished the week with an example of how a very simple progression can be the foundation for a great song with Society by Eddie Vedder.

This leads me to think I need to get back on the Songwriting Collaboration bandwagon and am hoping that some of you have been coming up with progressions, melodies, lyrics, anything along the compositional lines. Maybe next week I’ll get another one going.

The talk about progressions led me to a couple mystery songs, one of which uses just two chords, and another that many people would say uses way too many, and in too many different keys. I hope you like (and recognize them), as both are under consideration for future lessons.

Back next week, on not Friday the 13th!
