This week’s update had a lot of playing and less talking than usual. I have been pretty inspired by some of our recent lessons and Student Reviews. As a matter of fact, my to-do list was blindsided by Bob McAlpine’s lesson on Sleep Walk, and SFlier’s upload of Let It Be Me, both of which will probably be my next lessons. There are some interesting challenges in both of those. One being combining Everly Brothers’ harmonies into a solo arrangement and the other translating Sleep Walk back to its original form–the lap steel that Santo Farina played in 1959.

The other new lessons included Vanessa’s take on Way Over Yonder by Carole King, another piano tune adapted to how she would play it on the guitar, and my recent look at John Fahey’s lap steel tune Steamboat Gwine ‘Round De Bend.

Next week we have something else really different in the pipeline (like the recent lap steel lessons), Doug Young has finished a lesson on the high-strung guitar, also known as Nashville Tuning. And Vanessa is working out a Gerry And The Pacemakers’ tune, which sent me off attempting Ferry Cross The Mersey, which may take cuts in front of some of my other projects (surprise, surprise, surprise, to borrow from Gomer Pyle).

That’s all for now,

Neil
